Role Overview:
Our globally renowned aerospace client is seeking an Obsolescence Engineer to support both current and emerging defence programmes across its UK portfolio. The role will primarily be based in Yeovil, and will report to the Obsolescence Capability Lead within the Product Support Engineering function.
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of effective Obsolescence Management services, supporting programme sustainability, availability, and long-term supportability across complex military platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Obsolescence Capability Lead in delivering obsolescence management services across the client’s portfolio, including the development and maintenance of processes and plans to meet evolving programme requirements.
- Identify obsolescence risks and opportunities at an early stage, supporting the development of mitigation strategies and resolution plans.
- Prepare and contribute to technical briefings, meetings, and internal or external working groups.
- Attend and contribute to customer, supplier, and internal programme meetings as required.
- Liaise with engineering, supply chain, training, and wider support functions to ensure alignment with programme developments and support objectives.
- Engage directly with customers on obsolescence-related matters, providing informed technical support and guidance.
- Assist in the coordination and delivery of Support Engineering outputs (including CDRLs), ensuring timely inputs, high-quality reviews, and first-time-right delivery.
- Interface with the client’s international obsolescence teams to ensure alignment between UK solutions and global platform strategies.
- Support wider business initiatives such as quality improvement, safety culture, mentoring, and capability development as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Eligibility to obtain UK SC security clearance is essential.
- Strong understanding of Support Engineering, with specific experience in obsolescence management within a military or defence environment.
- Ability to analyse and interpret engineering and support data to inform decision-making.
- Proven capability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to identify optimisation opportunities and improve customer outcomes.
- Experience liaising with OEM organisations to integrate UK solutions with wider platform strategies.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, with a focus on first-time-right delivery.
- Familiarity with international support standards, such as Def Stan 00-600 and the ASD/AIA S-Series ILS specifications, is desirable.
- Degree-level education in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred but not essential.
